Historical fiction can be anything that happened before we
were born or even while we were living, but is in the past. It allows us to experience what it might have
been like to be there in that place and time, to see, smell, hear, and feel the
things those people did. The story needs
to have good character interaction and connections. The facts of the time period need to be
accurate and the values of that time need to be brought to life and explained
so the reader can understand. The
clothing, music, speech patterns need to reflect the truism of the time period.
And the theme needs to be relatable to modern readers and be universal.
